Story: Persephone, the queen of the underworld, was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, the goddess of harvest and fertility. She was also called Kore, which means "maiden" and grew up to be a lovely girl attracting the attention of many gods. Persephone is also the Greek goddess of Innocence. Her beauty, paramount of all creatures, is her weakness.
“It grew louder, siren crying from her the depth of very voice: Sweet melodies to guide me to the underworld.”
Kerri Halpern of Madstone Design has always been intrigued by Greek and Roman mythology. She drew much of her inspiration for the Madstone Mythology collection through her years of travel and studying ancient cultures. Recent trips to the Louvre and Metropolitan Museum of Art to view art and sculpture from this period also brought new insight. Each jewelry piece in this collection is designed to embody the essence of the God or Goddess she refers to incorporating symbolism used in art and literature.
